One of my most treasured memories is of visiting my Grandad in India,
while visiting my Mum’s side of the family. He was a quiet man, but very
friendly and welcoming, making me feel right at home.
I remember watching him cook his signature orange dahl for the
whole family, a soup-like lentil curry that felt comforting and delicious.
Years have passed, and my Grandad is no longer with us, but his
memory carries on through this recipe. My Mum kept it and eventually
passed it on to me. Every time I make it, I think of Grandad, cooking for
us during those hot summer days in India.
